Twitter Notification : You are unable to follow more people at this time
A new Twitter account can follow a maximum of 5,000 Twitter accounts before a 10% follower limit is imposed.
After following 5,000 Twitter accounts you can’t follow more accounts until your account has at least 4,545 followers OR you unfollow accounts not following back so you can follow more.
After reaching the 5,000 limit if you try to follow more Twitter users you will receive the “You are unable to follow more people at this time” notification (see screenshot above).

I have an account that is following over 5,000 but has more followers than are being followed. I still hit this limit. I’ve removed several people that I’m following from the account but can’t follow one new account.
Is there a period of time you must wait after unfollowing before the limits allow the account to follow more?
